Rayalaseema University, Kurnool, was established in 2008 through Act No. 29 of the Andhra Pradesh Legislature, fulfilling the aspirations of the people of Kurnool district. Before attaining university status, it functioned as a Postgraduate Centre under Sri Venkateswara University since 1977, catering to the educational needs of the region. Initially offering programs in Economics and Operations Research, the Centre later expanded with courses in Physics and Chemistry in 1979. By 1990, it moved to its own campus in B. Tandrapadu, near Kurnool, and in 1993, its affiliation shifted to Sri Krishnadevaraya University. Over the years, additional programs in Computer Science, Management, Mathematics, Botany, Organic Chemistry, Zoology, English, Biotechnology, M.Ed., M.Com., and Electronics & Communications were introduced.
