Yogi Vemana University

Yogi Vemana University, named after the esteemed philosopher, poet, and yogi Vemana, was established in 2006 by an Act of the A.P. State Legislature. It serves as a vital educational and research hub for the underprivileged Rayalaseema region, particularly Y.S.R. district. Formerly the Sri Venkateswara University Postgraduate Centre, it was elevated to a university to foster a value-based education system and quality research. The institution remains dedicated to maintaining high academic standards that contribute to intellectual and social growth.

Located 15 km from Kadapa City on the Kadapa-Pulivendula road, the university spans 652 acres with a built-up area of 78,088.48 sq. meters. It boasts modern infrastructure, including well-equipped research labs, a supercomputer, ISRO Geosphere Biosphere Atmospheric Research Facility, Agri-Science Park, botanical gardens, and hostels. A dedicated complex in the Gurukulam area facilitates vocational training. With over 2,000 postgraduate and research students, the university has secured 88+ research projects worth Rs. 29 crores from prestigious agencies. The university promotes student success, with over 650 students securing placements and many excelling in CSIR/UGC-JRF, NET, APSET, and DST-INSPIRE programs. With 113 affiliated colleges, it offers diverse undergraduate and postgraduate courses, including law and physical education. Two integrated M.Sc. programs in Earth Sciences and Biotechnology & Bioinformatics were introduced in 2007.

Several student support cells, including Women’s Cell, Minority Cell, and Anti-Ragging Cell, have been established. The C.P. Brown Library, now a language research center, preserves rare books and manuscripts. The university focuses on interdisciplinary learning across 29 departments in science, humanities, and commerce.
