Rajiv Gandhi University, formerly known as Arunachal University, is the leading higher education institution in Arunachal Pradesh, with over twenty-five years of distinguished service. Established on February 4, 1984, by the late Prime Minister Indira Gandhi at Rono Hills, the university began functioning on April 1, 1985, after receiving academic recognition under Section 2(f) of the University Grants Commission (UGC). It gained financial recognition under Section 12-B of the UGC on March 25, 1994. The university was designated as a Central University on April 9, 2007, following a notification from the Ministry of Human Resource Development.
Situated atop Rono Hills, the scenic 302-acre campus offers a stunning view of the Dikrong River and is conveniently connected to National Highway 415 by the Dikrong Bridge. The university provides a wide range of educational programs, including Certificate Courses, Diplomas, Postgraduate Diplomas, Undergraduate, Postgraduate, and Ph.D. programs. The Department of Education also offers a B.Ed. program. Currently, 45 colleges are affiliated with the university, extending educational opportunities to students from neighboring states like Assam.
Rajiv Gandhi University emphasizes research and academic excellence, with faculty members actively engaged in projects funded by UGC and other agencies. Despite infrastructural challenges, the university continues to excel in teaching, research, curriculum development, and timely examination processes.
Rajiv Gandhi University (RGU), located in Arunachal Pradesh, provides a range of scholarships to support students in their academic and research pursuits. As part of the National Scholarships Portal, a Mission Mode Project under the National e-Governance Plan (NeGP), RGU facilitates smooth application, processing, and disbursal of scholarships.
The university offers several scholarships, including the Prof. G.N. Pandey Science Scholarship, designed to encourage excellence in the field of science. Additionally, students can avail themselves of the Post Matric Scholarship, aimed at providing financial assistance to those from economically disadvantaged backgrounds pursuing higher education.
For research enthusiasts, RGU offers PhD fellowships, promoting interdisciplinary research and encouraging advanced studies. These scholarship opportunities are intended to empower students by reducing financial barriers and enabling them to focus on their academic growth.
Through its scholarship programs, Rajiv Gandhi University continues to contribute to the educational development of the region by supporting deserving students in their quest for knowledge and research excellence.
