Assam Women’s University

Established under Act XXII of 2013, the Assam Women’s University holds the authority to confer degrees as per Section 22 of the UGC Act, 1956. It is dedicated to academic excellence through its various departments, fostering education and research.

Fee Waiver Scheme – Assam Government

Overview of the Scheme

The Government of Assam introduced a Fee Waiver Scheme during the 2018-19 academic session to ensure access to higher education for economically disadvantaged students. This initiative allows students to gain admission without paying tuition fees. The scheme applies to students enrolling in the 1st year of Higher Secondary (H.S.), undergraduate (B.A./B.Sc./B.Com.), and postgraduate (M.A./M.Sc./M.Com.) programs. However, students admitted under the Higher Fee (Endowment) category are not eligible. Students who had previously availed of this waiver can continue receiving the benefit for their 2nd and 3rd years in H.S. and undergraduate courses, and for the final year in postgraduate programs. The scheme remains in effect for the 2019-20 academic session.

Eligibility Criteria

• Students must have a parental annual income of less than ₹2.00 lakh from all sources.
  
  
• If either parent is employed in the State Government, Central Government, or any government undertaking, the student is not eligible.
  
  
• Only regular students with at least 75% attendance and no backlogs in previous exams can apply.

Required Documents

• Income Certificate from the Local Revenue Circle Officer.
  
  
• A declaration confirming that neither parent is a government employee. Any false declaration will result in admission cancellation and fee recovery.

Student Responsibilities

• Students must plant a sapling at their college or home and submit a photograph as proof.
  
  
• They must care for the plant and provide an updated photograph during their second-year admission.
  
  
• A Scrutiny Committee of biology faculty will assess the plant’s growth and verify authenticity before approving continued benefits.
