The Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati (IIT Guwahati), established in 1994, is the sixth member of the IIT family. Its academic journey began in 1995, and the institute now offers a diverse range of programs across eleven departments, seven interdisciplinary centres, and five schools. These programs span various disciplines, including engineering, science, healthcare, management, and humanities, with courses like B.Tech., B.Des., M.A., M.Des., M.Tech., M.Sc., MBA, and Ph.D. IIT Guwahati has developed state-of-the-art infrastructure and scientific equipment for advanced research, fulfilling the aspirations of the people of the Northeast region since its inception.

Scholarships available at Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati

IIT Guwahati offers a range of scholarships to promote academic excellence and support financially disadvantaged students. Scholarships are awarded based on merit and need, as per guidelines set by the IIT Council and the institute’s statutes. Key scholarships include:

1. Institute Merit Scholarship (IMS): Available for B.Tech, B.Des, M.Sc, and M.A students from the second year onward, based on yearly performance. This includes tuition fee waivers and a monthly stipend for 8 months.
   
   
2. Institute Merit-cum-Means (McM) Scholarship: Offered to non-SC/ST students on a merit-cum-means basis, considering parental income and academic performance. A maximum of 25% of non-SC/ST students can receive this scholarship.
   
   
3. SC/ST Scholarships: These cover all SC/ST students, providing a stipend, free meals (basic menu), hostel rent waiver, and a tuition fee waiver.

In addition, IIT Guwahati students can avail of external scholarships from government and non-government organizations. The institute also supports the creation of scholarships from donations that align with its educational objectives.

For postgraduate and Ph.D. students, assistantships are provided under the MHRD norms. These support students’ education and research activities. Scholarships are contingent on maintaining academic standards, and misconduct or non-completion of the program may lead to suspension or withdrawal of financial aid.
