Krishna Kanta Handiqui State Open University (KKHSOU) is the only State Open University in Northeast India, established in 2005 through the KKHSOU Act passed by the Government of Assam. It is recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC), which allows it to offer degrees under the UGC Act of 1956. The university’s headquarters is located in Patgaon, Rani, Guwahati, and it was founded with the goal of providing education beyond barriers.
KKHSOU's mission is to make higher education accessible to everyone, regardless of their age, background, or location. The university provides flexible learning options, allowing students to learn at their own pace and from any location. It offers various undergraduate (UG) and postgraduate (PG) programs, as well as professional certificate and diploma courses. These programs are designed to help students in the region, including those already enrolled in other institutions, further their education with additional studies.
The university aims to build a knowledge-based society by offering quality education through Open and Distance Learning (ODL). It has a strong learner base of over 5 lakh students. Starting from July 2023, KKHSOU follows the guidelines of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and offers UG and PG programs based on the latest curriculum standards.
Krishna Kanta Handiqui State Open University (KKHSOU) offers various scholarships to its students to support their educational journey. One notable scholarship is for female civil service aspirants, aiming to encourage and support women who are preparing for civil services examinations. This scholarship is designed to provide financial assistance to female students who are enrolled in the university and aspire to join the civil services.
The scholarship helps ease the financial burden associated with the preparation for competitive exams like the IAS, IPS, and other civil services, which often require substantial investment in coaching and study materials. By offering this scholarship, KKHSOU aims to empower women and promote their participation in the civil services, which is crucial for enhancing gender equality and representation in public administration.
Apart from this specific scholarship, KKHSOU also offers various financial aid schemes and support programs for students from economically weaker backgrounds, ensuring that higher education is accessible to all. These scholarships are part of the university’s broader commitment to providing quality education and fostering inclusive growth, especially in the North Eastern region of India.
Students interested in these scholarships can find detailed information on eligibility criteria and application processes through the university’s official website.
