National Law University and Judicial Academy, Assam (NLUJA) is the first NLU established in Northeast India, aiming to provide exemplary legal education that meets global standards. Since its inception, the university has focused on both theoretical and practical aspects of law. Its undergraduate and postgraduate curricula take a progressive approach, integrating interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary perspectives. Students can choose from a diverse range of elective and specialization courses, enriched by guest lectures from national and international experts. The emphasis on seminar papers, projects, and dissertations nurtures critical thinking and legal writing skills, while the innovative evaluation system includes a continuous assessment of 200 marks. The curriculum also features value-based, skill-oriented courses to enhance student learning.
NLUJA promotes technology-driven education through smart classrooms, online platforms, virtual classrooms, and multimedia resources, fostering an interactive learning environment. It has also transformed the mooting culture in Northeast India by conducting three levels of moot court competitions—university, regional, and national. To encourage participation, financial assistance is provided, and moot court exercises are integrated into the curriculum.
The university has established itself as a legal knowledge hub by collaborating with institutions like UNICEF, Oil India Limited, and the National Commission for Women for research, training, and consultations. Partnerships with renowned universities facilitate joint research, faculty development, and exchange programs, broadening academic exposure. NLUJA also prioritizes scholarly publications, including journals, books, and research papers, particularly focusing on Northeast India.
Beyond academics, NLUJA engages in community outreach through its Legal Aid Cell, Pro Bono Club, and NSS.
