Bangalore University

Established in July 1964, Bangalore University emerged as an offshoot of the University of Mysore to accommodate institutions of higher learning in Bangalore, Kolar, and Tumkur. Over time, Tumkur evolved into a separate university. The prestigious Central College (CC) and University Visvesvaraya College of Engineering (UVCE) formed the foundation of the university.

In 1965-66, Bangalore University pioneered Honours Courses in disciplines like Botany, Chemistry, Economics, English, Geology, Kannada, Mathematics, and Zoology, attracting brilliant students. These courses offered priority admission to postgraduate programs, fostering academic excellence. Expanding rapidly, the university relocated in 1973 to its sprawling 1,100-acre campus, Jnana Bharathi (JB), which now houses the Vice Chancellor’s office, postgraduate departments, law college, and research centers.

The university has established significant centers like Gandhi Bhavan, Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Study and Research Centre, and the Centre for Social Exclusion and Inclusive Policy. Accredited by NAAC with an 'A' grade, Bangalore University ranks among India’s top multidisciplinary universities and is recognized internationally by QS University Rankings: BRICS.

With six faculties, 48 postgraduate departments, 684 affiliated colleges, and over three lakh students, the university remains committed to academic excellence, research, and societal progress, truly embodying its motto, "JNANAM VIGNANA SAHITHAM."
