Mizoram University

Mizoram University, located in Aizawl, the capital of Mizoram, spans 978.1988 acres on the outskirts of the city. Before its establishment, the North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU) operated a campus in the region. Over the past 22 years, Mizoram University has made significant strides in infrastructure, academic programs, and support services.

Accredited with an 'A' grade by NAAC in both 2014 and 2019, the University also earned ISO Certification in 2018. It has been ranked among India’s top 100 universities by NIRF from 2016 to 2023 and secured the 1st rank in the North-East Region in the Times Higher Education Impact Rankings 2022. Additionally, Mizoram University ranked 13th in the IIRF 2023 among top Central Universities.

The University comprises 39 academic departments across 10 Schools of Study, offering undergraduate, postgraduate, and Ph.D. programs. It has 40 affiliated colleges and one constituent college. Implementing the Choice-Based Credit System (CBCS) since 2013, Mizoram University is advancing towards offering multidisciplinary programs in alignment with the NEP 2020. The campus is eco-friendly, utilizing solar power for all its buildings and streetlights.

Students and faculty are actively involved in various cultural and sports activities. The University encourages participation in inter-university sports and offers facilities for disabled students. Ranked 77th in NIRF 2024, Mizoram University remains committed to academic excellence and holistic education.

Scholarships available at Mizoram University

Various fellowships and stipends are provided to students across different categories to support their education. For students from Scheduled Tribes (ST), Scheduled Castes (SC), Other Backward Classes (OBC), and persons with disabilities, the National Fellowship programs offer financial support ranging from ₹37,000 to ₹42,000 per month for general fellowships, with additional allowances of ₹20,500 to ₹25,000, and 9% of the fellowship for support services.

The Maulana Azad National Fellowship for Minority Students (MANF) and the National Fellowship for Persons with Disabilities (NF-DIS) follow similar financial structures. For Science students, fellowships such as the DST-JRF, CSIR-UGC, and INSPIRE programs offer ₹37,000 to ₹42,000 per month, with extra allowances varying depending on the specific fellowship. Additionally, the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) and Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR) fellowships offer support ranging from ₹20,000 to ₹42,000, depending on the specific fellowship.

Post-doctoral fellowships, like the SERB-National Post-Doctoral Fellowship and the CCRAS Post-Doctoral Fellowship, offer significantly higher amounts, with stipends reaching ₹80,000 and allowances for research and project expenses.
Special stipends are available for students with disabilities. The MZU Stipend provides a monthly allowance of ₹2,000 for blind students, and various exam-related allowances are offered for both blind and orthopedically handicapped students.
