The Indian Institute of Engineering Science and Technology (IIEST), Shibpur—formerly known as Bengal Engineering College—is one of India’s oldest and most prestigious engineering institutions. Established in 1856, it is the third engineering college in India by foundation and the second oldest by graduation year.
In 2014, it became the first institute to be granted the status of IIEST. With a legacy spanning over 165 years, IIEST has played a vital role in advancing technical education and nation-building. Ranked 27th in the NIRF 2021 among engineering institutes, it continues to uphold excellence in academics and research.
The institute houses 16 academic departments and 8 dedicated schools, offering undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programs across various disciplines. Merit-based & Needy Scholarships: The Global Alumni Association (GAABESU) provides annual financial support to outstanding and economically disadvantaged undergraduate students.
Fellowships for Excellence: Recognizes undergraduates who demonstrate both strong academic performance and extracurricular involvement.
Research Awards: Available to students at UG and PG levels actively engaged in research projects.
Departmental Topper Scholarships: Rewarded to top-performing students within each department based on CGPA.
Institute & National Scholarships
SC/ST Tuition Fee Waiver: Full waiver for SC/ST students, plus substantial waivers for low-income General/OBC/EWS students (e.g., full waiver if family income < ₹1 L; 2/3 fee waiver if income < ₹5 L) .
Swami Dayananda Education Foundation: One-time grant up to ₹50,000 for deserving UG and PG students.
Reliance Foundation Scholarships: Supports first-year UG/PG students in select disciplines like AI, CS, Mathematics, and ECE.
Professor Amiya K. Basu Research Award: Offers an additional ₹10,000/month to selected PhD candidates in structural dynamics.
MHRD-Institute Scholarships: About 25 institute-level merit scholarships, which may be expanded based on MHRD/donor funding.
