West Bengal State University

West Bengal State University (WBSU), a public affiliating university in Barasat, North 24 Parganas, West Bengal, was established in 2008 via a legislative act. It occupies a 29 acre urban campus and oversees 55 affiliated colleges formerly under the University of Calcutta. WBSU encompasses 30 departments across Science, Arts, Commerce, and Management, offering UG, PG, M.Phil and Ph.D programs. Recognized by the UGC under Section 12B and accredited by NAAC in 2021, the university emphasizes inclusive, flexible education. Facilities include a central library with ~159,000 books, labs, hostels, auditorium, sports complex, gym, internet/Wi Fi, and support cells for student welfare and anti ragging. Matching its motto “Lakshyang Viswamanam” (“The goal is good”), WBSU fosters interdisciplinary research, outreach, and partnerships, reflecting strong administrative progress since its first convocation in 2017. 

Scholarships available at West Bengal State University

West Bengal State University offers a range of scholarships aimed at supporting meritorious and financially needy students. Key schemes include the Merit cum Means Scholarship, for West Bengal residents pursuing UG/PG/professional courses with family income ≤ ₹2.5 lakhs annually, and the Swami Vivekananda Merit Cum Means Scholarship for minority students under the same income threshold. The Post Matric Scholarship supports students in post secondary education whose family income does not exceed ₹2 lakhs. For single girl children enrolled in PG programs, the PG Indira Gandhi Scholarship is available. In addition, WBSU provides partial fee waivers from its CSR funds to deserving candidates over and above government schemes.
